• Story line: Omaha entered the top of the fifth down 4-3. After an Ed Lucas walk, the Royals ripped off four straight singles to score three runs. The last run of the inning was scored off a David Johnson wild pitch. The Royals' bullpen retired the final 15 batters, eight via strikeout. Gaby Hernandez came in to relieve Anthony Lerew and struck out five for the win.
• Moose tracks: Mike Moustakas went 1 for 5 with an RBI. Moustakas is now batting .246 for Omaha.
• Comings, goings: Kansas City promoted reliever Greg Holland to fill the roster spot of outfielder Scott Podsednik, who was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday. The 24-year-old Holland was 3-3 with a 3.81 ERA and three saves for Omaha. The right-hander had been especially good recently, going 1-0 with a 1.10 ERA and 30 strikeouts in his last 10 outings. ... Catcher Lucas May, acquired by in the Podsednik trade, is expected to join Omaha in Memphis this weekend. May, 25, was a PCL All-Star this season with Albuquerque, hitting .296 with 11 home runs and 45 RBIs in 73 games.
• Up next: In the finale of the four-game series Friday night at 7:05, Omaha RH Philip Humber (4-6, 4.84 ERA) will face LH Chris Waters (5-8, 4.47).
