A two-vehicle crash at State Highway 133 and State Street critically injured an Omaha man.

Bernard Hurt, 32, of Omaha was driving a Toyota RAV4 westbound on State Street when a flatbed tow truck driven by David Counts, 25, of Omaha, was traveling northbound on Highway 133 and ran a red light, "T-Boning" Hurt's vehicle, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Hurt, trapped in his vehicle for 35 minutes after the crash as medics used the jaws-of-life to extricate him, was critically injured and airlifted by helicopter to the Nebraska Medical Center.

Neither Counts nor the unidentified passenger riding in the tow truck were seriously injured.

Criminal charges are pending as the accident remains under investigation, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities shut down the southbound lane of Highway 133 after the wreck. The highway remained closed for about two hours as the scene was cleared. The roadway reopened in mid-afternoon.
