LINCOLN (AP) — A 27-year-old mother has been fined $250 for letting her baby daughter get severely sunburned at Branched Oak Lake northwest of Lincoln.
Authorities say Crystal Znomist, of Lincoln, had pleaded no contest to child abuse by neglect.
She and some relatives spent five hours at the park on June 13. According to a sheriff's report, sunblock was used on the baby twice.
Nonetheless, the next morning the baby had to be taken to a hospital and treated for second-degree burns on her face.
Znomist's cousin and his wife, Alan and Dawn Peterson, also of Lincoln, have pleaded not guilty to the same misdemeanor charge. They face trial in October.
