9:03 a.m.: Don’t worry about the Nebraska receivers, Niles Paul was saying Tuesday. In fact, you might even be in for a surprise.
“We’ve got a wide receiver corps that I think is going to turn some heads this year,” Paul said. “That’s what I think and I think Coach Watson knows that, too. I think Coach Watson is trying to put the corps into better situations where we can get the ball in our hands and make some plays.”
Paul is the known commodity for offensive coordinator Shawn Watson, who also will be trying to best utilize Mike McNeill as he moves from tight end to a slot/adjuster role. Paul and McNeill combined for 68 receptions for 1,055 yards and eight touchdowns last season.
Beyond those two, however, are some unknowns. Brandon Kinnie should start alongside Paul, but the guesswork comes with Khiry Cooper, Will Henry, Curenski Gilleylen and others behind them.
Time will tell if Paul is just being optimistic or if big things are in store for both the senior and those around him.
