Festersen

Another recall petition filed

A second recall affidavit was taken out Friday against Omaha City Councilman Pete Festersen — and this one is valid.

Gail Trenhaile, who lives in Festersen's district, filed the affidavit against him.

On Thursday, the Omaha Citizens Coalition, headed by former State Sen. Lowen Kruse, announced recall efforts against Festersen, Mayor Jim Suttle and Councilwoman Jean Stothert.

Kruse filed paperwork against Festersen and Suttle. However, Kruse's attempt to recall Festersen was not valid because Kruse doesn't live in District 1, which Festersen represents, said Election Commissioner Dave Phipps. Kruse lives in District 2.

Festersen said Thursday that he and Kruse have worked on various city projects together.

"Lowen is a friend of mine," Festersen said. "The petitions are just a vehicle he is using to discuss his view of city services."

Christopher W. Carithers, who lives in Stothert's district, filed the affidavit against her.

Kruse has said he doesn't want to remove anyone from office but hopes to prompt discussions about the city budget.
