Arizona appeal wins Neb. support

LINCOLN -- Two Nebraska state senators have signed onto the appeal being mounted by the State of Arizona in support of its controversial immigration law.

State Sens. Tony Fulton of Lincoln and Charlie Janssen of Fremont are members of a group called State Legislators for Legal Immigration, which filed a brief in support of Arizona's appeal of a federal judge's ruling striking down key provisions of its law.

Fulton, in a press release Wednesday, said he supports "a balanced federalism" in which the states have a role to play in enforcing national immigration policy.

Janssen, who said he will introduce an Arizona-like proposal in the Nebraska Legislature in January, said he also supports the principle of "dual sovereignty."

"It is one of the most important foundations in our system of government. I strongly support this statement, and am eager to push forward with similar legislation when our own State Legislature reconvenes," Janssen said.
