New albums are dropping this fall, too

Along with all of those concerts coming to town, there's plenty of good new music on its way.

Hundreds of albums will be released through the beginning of November. But the following are the ones we're most excited about, from indie folks such as Superchunk to big boys, including Kenny Chesney.

So get yourself to a record store (or iTunes).

Sept. 7

INTERPOL, "INTERPOL"

The band, not the international police organization, is releasing a fourth album. It's the last with bassist and original member Carlos Dengler and, in case anyone yearns for the band's early years, drummer Sam Fogarino told Paste magazine: “The new record falls back towards the first.”

Interpol, "Barricade"

N*E*R*D, “NOTHING”

The hip-hop/rock group features Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo (known together as producing duo the Neptunes) as well as Shay Haley. The album's first single, the funky “Hot-n-Fun,” features Nelly Furtado.

N.E.R.D., "Hot-n-Fun (feat. Nelly Furtado)"

KID ROCK, "BORN FREE"

Say what you will about Kid Rock, but producer Rick Rubin assembled an all-star cast for this album, including Metallica's James Hetfield, Martina McBride, Bob Seger, Trace Adkins, Zac Brown, T.I., the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith and plenty more.

Kid Rock, "Cowboy"

Sept. 14

OF MONTREAL, "FALSE PRIEST"

This Georgia group is really looking to blow people's minds with its latest album, as if its quirky, poppy previous work hasn't done so enough already. The video for the band's new song, “Coquet Coquette,” is up at ofmontreal.net if you want a sample.

BRANDON FLOWERS, "FLAMINGO"

Flowers announced a career away from the Killers earlier this year, and we've been bouncing along ever since. If you're looking for something similar to the Killers' sound, you'll find it here.

Brandon Flowers, "Crossfire"

WEEZER, "HURLEY"

Named after a “Lost” character, Weezer's new record is getting praise that its predecessor, “Raditude,” did not. After frontman Rivers Cuomo said the album showed the band going back to its roots, Spin magazine said the record is “a solid collection of precise and persuasively melodic rock that has enough oddball brio to feel like the effort of a real live human being, rather than more formally flawless, emotionally inert output from the Cuomobot.”

Weezer, "Memories"

SUPERCHUNK, "MAJESTY SHREDDING"

At the Maha Music Festival here in Omaha, we got a taste of Super-chunk's new album, the band's first in nine years. It's as good as the band's first album, just as fun and a bit poppier.

Superchunk, "Digging For Something"

AZURE RAY, "DRAWING DOWN THE MOON"

Maria Taylor and Orenda Fink have put their solo careers on hold for a bit in order to get back to Azure Ray, which hasn't released an album since 2003.

Azure Ray, "If You Fall"

Sept. 28

BAD RELIGION, "THE DISSENT OF MAN"

The punk group is celebrating its 30th anniversary by putting out its 15th album. The first single, “The Devil in Stitches,” is yet another driving, anthemic tune in Bad Religion's style.

JIMMY EAT WORLD, "INVENTED"

The power-pop-punk group is at it again with its seventh album. The first single, “My Best Theory,” has a driving melody with a dancey beat, similar to the Killers or Franz Ferdinand.

T.I., “KING UNCAGED”

After a much-publicized prison stay on weapons charges, T.I. is a free man and has plenty on his plate. He contributed songs to “Takers,” a film he appears in, and he's also readied “King Uncaged.” The rapper says this is the third album of a trilogy that included “T.I. vs. T.I.P.” and “Paper Trail.”

T.I., "Got Your Back"

KENNY CHESNEY, "HEMINGWAY'S WHISKEY"

The country turned island/good-times singer named his album after a track by Guy Clark. “When I heard this song, it just took me to those places. It took me to a state of mind,” Chesney told Billboard magazine. “I don't know what I'd ask Hemingway if I had a beer with him. We'd have to have whiskey, I guess.”

Kenny Chesney, "Boys of Fall"

PETE YORN, "PETE YORN"

While Yorn was recording his album “Back & Fourth” in Omaha, he ran off in the middle of the sessions to record with Pixies frontman Frank Black. Working with Black paid off, yielding a hard-rocking record.

Pete Yorn, "Precious Stone"

Oct. 5

TIM KASHER, "THE GAME OF MONOGAMY"

The angsty, complicated, howling Kasher is leaving his buddies in Cursive behind to do a solo record. Kasher has something to say about relationships as four of the 10 songs have references to love or marriage in the title.

Tim Kasher, "Cold Love"

Oct. 12

SUFJAN STEVENS, "THE AGE OF ADZ"

Stevens released one of the best albums of the last decade with “Illinois,” and critics and fans are excited for his first song-based album in five years. Stevens' people called it a “pop-song extravaganza, augmented by heavy orchestration, and maybe even a few danceable moments.”

Sufjan Stevens, "Chicago"

Oct. 19

KINGS OF LEON, "COME AROUND SUNDOWN"

After the wild success that was “Only by the Night,” Kings of Leon has a lot to live up to. Sales figures were phenomenal and the album garnered the group three Grammys. During the band's current tour, the group has played the songs “Immortals,” “Radioactive,” “Southbound” and “Mary,” all slated to appear on the new record.

Kings of Leon, "Fans"

Oct. 26

TAYLOR SWIFT, "SPEAK NOW"

The little country singer knows how to sell a ton of albums, dropping 4 million of her first two records in 2008. Be prepared to hear the first single, “Mine,” a lot this fall and winter (if you haven't already ... it's out on iTunes now).

Taylor Swift, "Mine"

KID CUDI, "MAN ON THE MOON 2: THE LEGEND OF MR. RAGER"

Cudi says this is a personal album, featuring both good and bad aspects of his life. It also features production from Kanye West, the Neptunes, Ratatat and others as well as guest spots from West, Snoop Dogg, Pharrell and more.

Kid Cudi, "Pursuit of Happiness (feat. MGMT)"

Nov. 2

BRIAN ENO, "SMALL CRAFT ON A MILK SEA"

The much-hailed producer has been working with Coldplay lately but also working on his own solo album. Eno worked with guitarist Leo Abrahams and electronica musician Jon Hopkins.

No release date set

KANYE WEST, "DARK TWISTED FANTASY"

West's fifth studio album doesn't have a release date yet, but the single “Power,” featuring Dwele, was released in June.

BEASTIE BOYS, "HOT SAUCE COMMITTEE, PT. 1"

The single “Too Many Rappers” was released more than a year ago, but the record's release date was delayed when Adam “MCA” Yauch was diagnosed with cancer. A new release date hasn't been set yet, but the band says Part 2 has also been completed.

BRIGHT EYES

As reported in The World-Herald, Conor Oberst is supposed to release his last album with the Bright Eyes name sometime in 2010. Guitarist/producer Mike Mogis has also said the band was going to record over the summer. No title or release date has been set.

THE STROKES

The band has recorded a fourth album and worked with producer Joe Chiccarelli, but a release date and title haven't been named. The album's release has suffered from delays due to the band's recording and deciding on songs and to singer Julian Casablancas releasing a solo album.

R.E.M.

The Georgia group released “Accelerate” in 2008 and supposedly has another finished album in the bag. No release date yet.
