Students get movie during part of lunch period
Sept. 3, 1927: South Omaha schools were resuming classes. South High’s day, which ran from 8 a.m. to 3:25 p.m., was longer than most other schools’, but more time for study reduced the percentage of failures, school officials said. The custom of showing a motion picture during the last 15 minutes of each lunch period would be continued at South.
1992: Budget problems were forcing library officials in several cities in the metropolitan area to cut services or operating hours. Book-buying had been put on hold at the Bellevue Public Library. The Omaha Public Library had cut operating hours for the second straight year, and Council Bluffs no longer had an assistant library director.
1992: The Omaha Royals were set to pass the 400,000 mark in home attendance for the first time in the club’s 24-year history. The Royals would honor the 400,000th fan by presenting the fan with team souvenirs and having the fan throw out the game’s first pitch.
2006: Husker Nation got its first look at a renovated Memorial Stadium during Nebraska’s 49-10 win over Louisiana Tech. New features included a 33-by-117-foot high-definition video screen and a Tunnel Walk that had been relocated to the northwest corner of the stadium.
