Plea deal reached in baby case

SIDNEY, Neb. (AP) — A Sidney man who dropped his 3-day-old baby into muddy water during a confrontation with officers has made a plea deal with prosecutors.

Court records say that on Wednesday, 25-year-old Jesse Berg pleaded no contest to felony drug sales, false imprisonment and terroristic threats, and no contest to misdemeanor resisting arrest.

In return, Cheyenne County prosecutors dropped charges of burglary, child abuse, criminal trespass, assault, disturbing the peace and being a habitual criminal.

Sentencing is set for Nov. 3.

Court records say Berg kicked in the door of his ex-girlfriend's apartment on April 23 and took the child, then led his ex to a meeting site in downtown Sidney. Records say that when police tried to arrest Berg, he dropped the child.
