Duvall film was sellout of sorts
If you tried to see the movie “Get Low,” starring Robert Duvall, at 9:15 p.m. Aug. 27 at Film Streams’ Ruth Sokolof Theater, you were out of luck.
The Slowdown, a music venue next door, bought out the entire theater for that showing.
No, music fans weren’t suddenly hungry for film. The Slowdown was having an outdoor concert and knew the feedback from music speakers would drown out the movie. So it simply bought out the theater.
Casey Logan, Film Streams’ publicist, said this was only the second time in three years that Slowdown had an outdoor concert like that and bought out the theater.

Omahan to take part in opera celebration
Omaha film historian Bruce Crawford has accepted an invitation from the Minnesota Opera Company to host an April 4 celebration of Bernard Herrmann’s opera “Wuthering Heights.”
Crawford will speak about the life and career of Herrmann, an Oscar-winning composer of film scores for movies such as “Citizen Kane,” “Psycho” and “Taxi Driver.” Crawford said Herrmann considered “Wuthering Heights” to be the masterwork of his life. The event is in recognition of the centennial of Herrmann’s birth.
Crawford also noted that the recent death of Oscar-winning actress Patricia Neal caused online hits to a portion of his website to soar. Neal visited Omaha for Crawford’s screening of “The Day the Earth Stood Still,” and pictures of her at that event are at www.omahafilmevent.com/past/tdtess.htm.
