    Nebraska's Quincy Enunwa

    FOOTBALL

    Q&A: NU receiver Quincy Enunwa

    The true freshman receiver from Moreno Valley, Calif., saw action in his first Nebraska game in Saturday’s 49-10 win over Western Kentucky. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Enunwa played about 10 snaps and made one catch for 10 yards in the fourth quarter. Enunwa is from the same high school (Rancho Verde) as sophomore linebacker Eric Martin.

    * * *

    Q: What was it like getting out there?

    A: It was exciting. It was like a rush.

    Q: What was the experience coming out of the tunnel and seeing all of those people?

    A: Oh man, crazy. As soon as I walked out of that tunnel and just saw all the red, I knew this is where I needed to be. I’m glad I made that decision to come here. I just loved it.

    Q: When you came here, did you think you’d be playing right away? Or did you expect to redshirt?

    A: I came here hoping that I would play, of course. I think everybody does. And then I got a glimpse of the playbook and saw how difficult it might be to learn it, so I was thinking maybe I should redshirt. But I’m still going to work hard to try to play anyway. It just so happened that I played well enough to see the field this year.

    Q: How far into fall camp did it take to get a sense that you might be able to play right away?

    A: Probably after the first week, or like toward the middle of the second week probably.

    Q: Do you think it was because you were picking things up quicker than you would have thought?

    A: No, I don’t think I picked up the plays that well. I think it was just that I was physically ready, so they thought they could help me mentally.

    Q: Did any of the older guys give you any advice that helped carry you through training camp?

    A: Yeah, Niles (Paul) always gave me good advice every day. Just to pick it up when I wasn’t doing as well as I should have been.

    Q: How long did it take you to settle in on Saturday? Was there a point you felt like the nerves went away?

    A: The way it is for me, I don’t really ever get comfortable until I get that first catch. So after I got that first catch, it was pretty comfortable. But I wasn’t in the game anywhere after that. But I think if I would have gotten back in, I would have been used to the speed.
