Boaters on the Missouri River near Omaha have reason to watch out for Asian carp, which sometimes jump out of the water. A carp, which can weigh upward of a hundred pounds, put a Texas kayaker out of business recently. The kayaker, one of the favorites in a race at Columbia, Mo., was hit in the head by an estimated 30 pounds of carp and had to quit the race. Many kayakers already wear construction helmets on the water; a federal official suggested that hockey helmets might be better.
