The 6-foot-2 setter from Elkhorn is one of the top returning volleyball players in the state. As a third-team All-Nebraska selection last year, she dished out 763 assists and pounded 149 kills for the 32-7 Antlers. Baumert has committed to Georgia.
Q: It’s early, but how is the season going so far?
A: Pretty good. We beat Omaha Gross, and they’re going to be one of the top teams.
Q: How do you like the fact Elkhorn dropped into Class B from Class A?
A: Our schedule is pretty much the same, so that doesn’t change much. And there are some really good teams in B, like Gross and Pius.
Q: Why Georgia?
A: When I made my visit, I loved everything about the place. The campus, the coaches, the team.
Q: How are they doing this season?
A: They’re 6-0 so far. I’m keeping track of them.
Q: Elkhorn is ranked No. 1 in Class B. Is that a good thing?
A: It puts more pressure on us, but we know that we have to play our best every match to stay there.
Q: How long have you been playing volleyball?
A: Since the seventh grade. It’s something that just came naturally to me.
Q: You also play basketball. Was it a tough decision between the two sports for college purposes?
A: No. Volleyball always has been my first love, and I feel that I’m a lot better at it.
Q: Are you involved in other activities at school?
A: National Honor Society, Student Council and SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).
Q: How’s that Elkhorn South split from Elkhorn working?
A: It’s kind of hard because we’re missing a lot of the girls we got to know. But we went out and cheered for their team the other night.
Q: Does the team do anything special to prepare for a match?
A: We do this dance and visualize what we want to have happen.
Q: Regular pregame meal?
A: Subway. Six-inch ham sandwich.
