Saints quarterback Drew Brees leads a loaded offense into New Orleans' season opener against Minnesota.

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Thursday Night Football: Vikings at Saints capsule

When: 7:30 p.m
TV: NBC
Line: Saints by 5½

Key stat: The Saints had an NFL-leading 26 interceptions in 2009, five returned for touchdowns, also a league high.

Lowdown: Many will tune in to see how Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, 40, fares in launching his 20th season. With his tender ankle and a thin receiving corps, it's doubtful he can get at least 40 receptions from six players again. Drew Brees (4,388 yards passing, 34 touchdowns in 2009) and the Saints probably don't mind being under the radar, knowing how tough it is to achieve repeat championships. The offense is loaded, and if the big-play defense can hold up until safety Darren Sharper (knee) returns, New Orleans should stay with the elite.

Prediction: Saints 27-20
