An Omaha Public Schools teacher charged with inappropriately touching an 11-year-old boy over the past seven months was released from jail after posting bail Tuesday.
Nicholas J. McKeone, 28, a fifth-grade teacher at Ashland Park-Robbins Elementary School, 5050 S. 51st St., was charged with third-degree felony sexual assault. He turned himself in to Omaha police on Friday and made his initial court appearance Tuesday.
His bail was set at $40,000 and he posted 10 percent of that — $4,000 — and was released Tuesday.
Prosecutors said McKeone is accused of inappropriate touching of one boy though not in the genital area and would sometimes have boys staying overnight at his home. One boy is alleged to have slept in the bed with him.
McKeone has been on paid leave since Nov. 19, said Luanne Nelson, a spokeswoman with the Omaha Public Schools. The district’s human resources department has recommended McKeone be terminated, Nelson said. The district’s board meets again on Dec. 20 and will vote at that time on the recommendation. McKeone lives near South 49th Avenue and Bancroft Street.
