Like some kind of rock ‘n’ roll “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” there’s a lot of audience participation at a Cowboy Mouth show.
During “Everybody Loves Jill” — a tune about a woman who loves the color red — fans often wave around red spoons and even throw them at the band. For Saturday’s show at the Waiting Room Lounge, the band’s website says, “As always, costumes are encouraged.”
The New Orleans-based party-rock band kicks off its annual “Rock ’n Roll Mardi Gras Tour” in Omaha on New Year’s Day and will tour the country into April.
Over the years, the group has become well-known for its rollicking live performances.
Rumor has it that if you don’t leave a Cowboy Mouth concert so tired you can barely move and with a hoarse throat, you just weren’t doing it right.
Music blog popmatters.com recently said, “If the energy of Cowboy Mouth’s live shows could be bottled up, it would knock Prozac off the shelves.”
Those energetic live shows have translated into seven live albums and EPs from the group as well as a DVD, “The Name Of The Band Is Cowboy Mouth.”
For its current tour, the band has also released a brand-new live EP, “Mardi Gras,” which is available at valley-entertainment.com and at the band’s shows.
Fans can expect some New Orleans and Mardi Gras favorites as well as the band’s other exuberant and uplifting tunes.
“I know that I personally have had to renew my optimism many times over my life just to keep going,” drummer Fred LeBlanc told houstonist.com. “And Lord knows, we all need redemption from time to time.”
