Mark Becker entered the weight room of Aplington-Parkersburg High School and shot football coach Ed Thomas, who later died of his wounds. Becker was convicted and sentenced to life in prison in April 2010.

Shane Goffena, 13, shot Andy Pope in the upper chest as the teacher finished a class at Chadron Middle School. Pope was not seriously wounded. Goffena was charged with attempted murder but pleaded guilty to juvenile charges of first-degree assault and using a firearm to commit a felony. He was sent for treatment at a juvenile center in Kearney.

A 14-year-old ninth-grader was shot in the back of the head in a hallway of Discovery Middle School and later died. A fellow ninth-grader was arrested.
Feb. 23, 2010, Littleton, Colo.
A 32-year-old gunman, Bruco Strongeagle Eastwood, opened fire on students at Deer Creek Middle School as school was being let out. The gunman was tackled by a math teacher. The gunman shot and injured two students before he was taken into custody.
Nov. 29, 2010, Marinette, Wis.
Samuel Hengel took 23 students and one teacher hostage for over five hours at Marinette High School. The suspect shot himself after police officers stormed the classroom. All hostages were safe.
