It's official. Omaha native Tim Halperin is one of the Top 24 contestants on “American Idol.”
Halperin steadily advanced through the auditions, beating out hundreds of other singers for a chance to win the Fox network's hit singing competition.
But before he learned the news, clips of his performances for judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler showed how he had made it to that point.
For Halperin's final audition he performed an original song. But would the risky decision pay off?
Facing the judges, Halperin acknowledged his initial audition in Los Angeles wasn't his strongest. He then said he had heeded Jackson's advice about finding who he was as an artist.
“I feel like I did that to the best of my ability, and I know that it lies in your hands now.”
The judges agreed. But viewers had to wait until Halperin greeted his friends outside the room to learn he was in the Top 24.
Halperin's Omaha fans will get the chance to vote for him beginning Tuesday at 7 p.m. on Fox (Cox Cable Channel 10).
