Achieving a “high fashion” makeup look is tricky because it's always changing. But some trends this spring just may stick around through fall.
Have you heard of the no make-up, make-up look? Get ready to come out looking like the best version of yourself.
GLAMOUR BROWS
First things first: Your brows. They frame your face. And as the saying goes, the bigger the brow, the younger the face. Power brows on Alexander Wang's models at the spring runway shows sent women scurrying to Anastasia, a posh Beverly Hills salon, to copy the look. (Five-element brow kit with shaping stencils, $65, www.anastasia.net). Chanel's brow shaper ($32) lets you elongate, sculpt and fill your brows without sticky or stiff results. The finishing touch: Bobbi Brown eye shadow in Mink.
MANNEQUIN HANDS
Nail polish is a fashion accessory these days. My favorite spring look is “mannequin hands” in which the tone of your polish matches the tone of your skin. Essie makes a great pale nude called Hot Coco, seen at Jason Wu's spring show. Subtle pinks and nudes make hands and fingers look pretty. Keep hands soft and smooth with my favorite product, Kukiwi Nut Lotion by Epicuren ($34, www.epicuren.com). It reminds me of the beach.
NO MAKE-UP, MAKEUP
Ironically, most models and fashion powerhouses, (think Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld) don't wear a lot of makeup. If you really want to pull of the minimalism trend, start with your face. Dust matte bronzer on your temples and cheekbones. Pick a shimmer--free shade, like Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel bronzing powder or Shiseido bronzer in dawn light.
Fresh's Sugar Lip Treatment is my secret lip trick. It's all-natural with bits of sugar to exfoliate and smells yummy. www.sephora.com
TANGERINE LIPS
Think like the French. Have restraint, pick a feature and play down the rest of the face.
Pucker up with tangerine lip color from Milly. Invest in reds, pinks and coral blushes. Start by dusting cheeks a lighter shade (Tarte makes a great cheek stain) and finish with a bright lip (Revlon makes a universally flattering lip gloss in Papaya).
