Golden treasures

BY CHRIS CHRISTEN | EDITOR, THE LOOK

Jewelry and religious icons star in “The Glory of Ukraine,” a special exhibition at Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha.

In appreciation of the artistry found in the collection, we went in search of contemporary pieces evoking ancient themes. We got as far as the museum gift shop, where exhibition-inspired works by local and regional gold- and silversmiths are on display.

Several necklaces, rings and bracelets take their cue from ritual objects in the celebrated PlaTar Collection.

The Hitchcock Shop typically carries original jewelry but the Ukraine exhibit provided a unique opportunity for specialty pieces, says retail manager Jane Westbrook Precella.

Here, a blend of new and old treasures.
