Ann gives instructions to her dancers.

Amber Mero

If you could meet anyone from history, who would it be and what would you ask them? Martha Graham. What was her inspiration to keep dancing and choreographing for over 70 years?

Where did you go to college?
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2001, with a bachelor of Fine Arts in dance.

How long have you been a part of Sarpy County? 2009

Where are you from? Utica, Neb.

What is one professional achievement of which you are most proud? Becoming an independent business owner. It gives me the freedom to make my own decisions and the ability to make of it what I want.

What volunteer efforts are you involved with? Why do you volunteer? Relay for Life, Community Performances, fundraising, entrepreneurial efforts to grow Gretna. I recognize that volunteering makes a difference no matter how big or small the effort.

What was your first job and what did you learn from your experience? I helped my dad as an employee for his construction company. It taught me the value of being an independent business owner and the benefits of hard work.

If you could do anything else for a career, what would it be? I would be an elementary school teacher. I enjoy working with and teaching children.

What do you do to relax? Owning a dance studio doesn't leave much time to relax, but when I do, I like to go get a pedicure. I enjoy making crafts and sewing, and I like to play recreational softball and volleyball.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? If you really want something, believe in yourself and work hard and you will be able to achieve it.

What do you enjoy most about working and/or living in Sarpy County? The support of the community and the opportunities that come along with it.

In your opinion, which is worse — failing or never trying? Never trying. If you never try, then you will never know if you could do it or not.

What is the one thing you'd most like to change about the world? I would like kids to have more opportunities to develop as individuals no matter what school system they are in. There are a lot of great kids with a lot of great ideas that don't get the opportunity to build on them while they are young.

You just won the lottery. What would you do with your winnings? Donate part of it to the dance department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to help strengthen and grow the dance program and build a performing arts center in Sarpy County to further develop community arts.

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Chocolate chip cookie dough. I like cookies.

What has been the best decision you ever made? Opening a dance studio. It has always been my lifelong dream.
