High water mark: Tuesday marked the first time in nearly two months that the Missouri River dipped below 34 feet at Council Bluffs. The height measured 33.98 feet at 6 a.m., dropping below 34 feet for the first time since June 20. County officials predict that if the weather cooperates and the planned reductions in water releases from Gavins Point Dam occur as forecast, the river could be off the levee system at Council Bluffs by the end of August or beginning of September.

Returning: Mills County officials on Tuesday decided to allow re-entry into parts of the county's mandatory evacuation area. Fifty-three business and home owners are allowed to re-enter the area in southwest Mills County. All other sections of the mandatory evacuation area remain impassable, and residents are not allowed to return at this time, emergency managers said.
