Michael McCarthy is the new chairman of the Greater Omaha Business Ethics Alliance, succeeding founding chairman Robert Bates.
McCarthy, the founder of McCarthy Capital of Omaha, will head a new executive committee being formed from the alliance's 167-member board of trustees.
Bates, who received the alliance's "beacon of ethics" award at the group's annual meeting Tuesday, will remain active in the organization. It was formed in 2008 by Creighton University, the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau. He is retired head of Guarantee Mutual Life Insurance Co. of Omaha.
Bates said the alliance's broad-based efforts to encourage practical ethical standards and conduct among businesses is attracting attention from other cities and serving as a national model for promoting ethics in business.
