LINCOLN — Redshirt freshman Robert Kokesh became the first Husker to earn Big Ten wrestler of the week honors when the conference announced the award on Tuesday.
Kokesh was rewarded for his efforts in Nebraska's 19-15 upset of No. 14 Wyoming on Saturday.With the Huskers leading by four points with three matches remaining, No. 10 Kokesh extended NU's lead with a 5-0 victory over No. 3 Shane Onufer at 165 pounds.
The Wagner, S.D., native is 13-2 overall this season, including 5-0 in dual competition. Nine of Kokesh's victories have been in bonus-point fashion with three wins over ranked opponents. Kokesh vaulted to No. 5 at 165 in InterMat's rankings.
