An Omaha-based company and one of its products is hitting the red carpet this weekend.
Mae's Health and Wellness, near 118th Street and West Center Road, produces and sells health and wellness products made with locally grown aroniaberries, also known as chokeberries, under the brand name Superberries. A gift box with Superberries Aroniaberry Gummy Chews and a company T-shirt will be in the VIP gift bags given to nominees, celebrities and magazine editors at a pre-Golden Globes event Friday in Beverly Hills, Calif.
"We are thrilled to have our Superberries product in the hands of top celebrities, media and editors," said Tammy Ross, marketing director for Westin Foods, the parent company of Mae's Health and Wellness. "This is an opportunity to get our brand out on a national level."
Ross was told the company was selected to participate by Golden Globes staff because it considered the Superberries brand to be unique. There was an $800 sponsorship fee, but Ross said a company has to be approached by the Golden Globes to participate.
The berries' dark purple color make them ideal for dying clothing and indicate the berry contains rich amounts of antioxidants. The aroniaberries are grown in Nebraska, Iowa and other Northern states.
Tea store opens
The Tea Smith is celebrating the grand opening of its newest store at 1118 Howard St. in the Old Market. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday. Owner Tim Smith said the grand opening celebration came at a perfect time — January is national hot tea month. The Tea Smith also has a location at 345 N. 78th St.
A Springfield consignment store is closed temporarily.
Nana's Closet will be closed through January except by appointment, said owner Ranee Brown.
She said the family consignment shop will reopen Feb. 1 after getting updates such as new paint and rearranged product displays.
In addition to this reorganization, Brown said new consignment items will be put out for sale more quickly, and she'll sell new accessory items such as hats, jewelry and belts.
