Crash victim ID'd as Harlan woman, 22

Iowa State Patrol officials on Saturday identified the 22-year-old woman who was killed in a traffic accident on Interstate 80.

Nicolette M. Johnston of Harlan died Friday when her vehicle crossed the median and collided with a semi trailer.

The State Patrol said it is unknown why Johnston lost control of her 2006 Saturn while heading west on I-80 near the 38-mile marker at Avoca.

She entered the median, rotated counter-clockwise and came to rest on the eastbound I-80 lanes.

Johnston's vehicle was broadsided by an eastbound semi-trailer truck driven by Bret A. Roberts of Estherville, Iowa. The crash pushed Johnston's car back into the westbound lanes.

Roberts was uninjured. — Sam Womack
