LINCOLN — John Papuchis' promotion to Nebraska defensive coordinator will come with a 50 percent salary increase, and staff newcomer Rick Kaczenski will start out making $195,000 after leaving Iowa for the Huskers.

    NEBRASKA COACHING SALARIES
    Bo PelinI, $2,775,000
    Tim Beck, $365,000
    Ron Brown, $240,000
    Barney Cotton, $240,000
    Ross Els, $220,000
    Rich Fisher, $180,000
    John Garrison, $160,000
    Rick Kaczenski, $195,000
    John Papuchis, $300,000
    Corey Raymond, $200,000

Papuchis' bump will take him to $300,000 from the $200,000 he made last year in his fourth season as an NU assistant coach. Tim Beck will go from $345,000 to $365,000 in his second year as offensive coordinator.

Papuchis is taking over at defensive coordinator for Carl Pelini, who was Nebraska's highest-paid assistant in 2011 at $375,000. Pelini left in December to become head coach at Florida Atlantic.

The updated NU staff salaries were obtained Thursday upon a World-Herald request.

Papuchis' salary has risen steadily since starting out at $120,000 in 2008 after following NU coach Bo Pelini from LSU, where he had served as a graduate assistant and intern. Papuchis, 33, will be replaced by Kaczenski as defensive line coach in 2012.

Kaczenski will see a slight increase from what he earned last season at Iowa, when his $179,280 made him the lowest-paid assistant on the Hawkeyes' staff, according to the Cedar Rapids Gazette. Kaczenski was with Iowa for seven seasons, including the past five as defensive line coach.

Among other Nebraska assistants, both Barney Cotton and Ron Brown will see bumps from $220,000 to $240,000; Ross Els from $170,000 to $220,000; Corey Raymond remains at $200,000; Rich Fisher goes from $160,000 to $180,000; and John Garrison from $140,000 to $160,000.

Els is set to replace Papuchis as the Huskers' special teams coordinator. Pelini has not yet said which assistant will add the duties of recruiting coordinator.

Also, the head coaching salary for Pelini is set to go from $2.775 million to $2.875 million on March 1, per terms of the revised contract he signed last spring.

Overall, the combined pay for Pelini and his nine full-time assistants in 2012 will be just under $5 million.
