Christian school plans to expand

Cornerstone Christian School is planning an expansion to include a full high school program as well as its own campus, said school administrator Teri Lynn Schrag.

"We are currently seeking land for purchase in the Bellevue and Papillion area that would be sufficient for the needs of a full K-12 campus," she said.

Cornerstone has 139 students this school year. Thanksgiving Lutheran Church at 36th Street and Nebraska Highway 370 leases space to the nondenominational school.

Cornerstone is starting a capital campaign to raise money for the purchase of land and to build facilities, Schrag said. It would be helpful to acquire land this spring, she said, although she could not provide a timeline.

Expansion to a K-12 program has been on the docket for a few years, Schrag said. The first step was adding a ninth grade at the start of this school year.

"Next year we will be adding a 10th grade and expanding into a whole K-12 program over the next couple of years," Schrag said.

In addition to adding grade levels, Cornerstone hopes to expand its offerings for current grade levels.

With the announcement that Bellevue Christian Academy will close at the end of the current school year, Schrag hopes a Cornerstone expansion will help to accommodate even more Christian students in the Bellevue area.

Schrag noted that Cornerstone is nearly at capacity now.

The school was founded 27 years ago, she said, and it's time to seek an independent campus for further expansion.
