Two Lancers earn USHL honors

WORLD-HERALD NEWS SERVICE

Omaha defenseman Nolan Zajac and goaltender Alex Lyon earned player of the week honors from the USHL after they helped the 23-12-2 Lancers increase their Western Conference lead with two wins in three games.

Zajac increased his season-best point streak to seven games with two goals and four assists in the trio of games played in just over 48 hours. After earning an assist in Friday's 3-2 loss to Tri-City, Zajac had an assist and a goal in Omaha's 4-0 win Saturday at Des Moines before scoring a goal and posting two more assists in Saturday's 6-2 victory over Fargo.

The Denver recruit now is tied for first among all USHL defensemen in scoring with 25 points (6 goals, 19 assists).

Lyon earned the goalie award for the second time this season for his performance in the wins against Des Moines and Fargo. His 24-save game against the Buccaneers was the Yale recruit's third shutout of the season.

Then in the win against Fargo, Lyon stopped 29 of the Force's 31 shots to give him a .964 save percentage in the two games. He has more wins (17) than any other goalie in the Western Conference.

Omaha hits the road this weekend for a pair of game — Friday at Fargo and Saturday at Sioux City.
