Quartet performs contemporary take on 'The Sound of Music'

« Go

One of Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata's favorite things is "The Sound of Music."

The instrumental quartet, led by Peter Kiesewalter and featuring alumni from Steely Dan, Matchbox 20 and Blue Man Group, dedicated their debut album to modern interpretations of the classic soundtrack.

Mixing elements of jazz, funk and rock with Rogers and Hammerstein's songs, Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata created an inventive ode to the beloved musical.

The album, "The Hills Are Alive," features an arena rock version of the title track, a poppy mash-up of "Do Re Mi" and Jackson Five's "ABC," as well as a punk spin on "I Have Confidence."

These contemporary takes on the iconic score will be performed when Brooklyn Rundfunk Orkestrata hits the Holland Performing Arts Center's stage on Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m.

The group has sincere love and admiration for "The Sound of Music" and hopes to win over fans of the classic and newcomers alike with its imaginative reconstruction of the cherished musical.
