Man sentenced in assault case

BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) — A 43-year-old Lincoln man accused of assaulting a Wymore police officer has been given a year in jail.

Clarence Schultz had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of attempted assault of an officer and of resisting arrest.

Schultz was sentenced Thursday in Gage County District Court.

Court documents say Wymore police were dispatched to the home of Schultz's brother July 12 last year. An officer saw Schultz banging his hand on the outside of the house.

The officer says that when he tried to take Schultz into custody, Schultz tried to punch him and struggled. Schultz was subdued with pepper spray.

The officer was not injured, other than getting some pepper spray in his eyes.
