FARGO, N.D. — Jimmy Murray scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lift the Omaha Lancers to a 4-3 victory against the Fargo Force on Friday.
Murray added an assist for the USHL Western Conference-leading Lancers (24-12-2), who reached the 50-point mark. The victory also stretched Omaha's road winning streak to a season-best five games. The Lancers improve to 3-0 in games decided in overtime.
Tied at three at the end of regulation, it took Murray 2:16 to hit the winning goal, which was the Lancers' only shot in the extra period. Casey Bailey and Kenney Morrison were credited with assists on Murray's 12th goal of the season.
Murray also scored the game's opening goal after winning a battle for a loose puck 12:59 into the first period. Bailey earned the assist, which marked the 19th time in 38 games that the Lancers have scored first.
Fargo evened the game in the final minute of the period when, while on the power play, Jordan Nelson came bursting in on the left wing before snapping home his third goal of the season.
With the score 1-1 in the second period, the Lancers regained the lead at 2:23 with a power-play goal. Murray passed the puck to Greg Gozzo, who scored his 17th goal of the season. Sott Dornbrock earned the secondary assist as Omaha tallied its 15th power-play goal in the past 10 games. The Lancers have now netted at least one power-play goal in nine of 10 games.
Fargo evened the game barely three minutes later with its second power-play goal of the game, a Taylor Richart shot that snuck past Alex Lyon.
The Force grabbed the lead 9:17 into the second period when Nelson was able to break free to score a short-handed goal. It was the sixth short-handed goal surrendered by the Lancers this season.
Anthony Hamburg found Nolan Zajac midway through the third period to tie it 3-3, his seventh goal of the season.
Lyon earned the victory in goal for Omaha with 38 saves. Lyon has won seven straight decisions and is 18-8-2.
The Lancers head to Sioux City on Saturday for a 7:05 p.m. game.
