Man dies after fall at casino

By Maggie O'Brien
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

A 62-year-old man died after falling off an escalator at Council Bluffs' Ameristar Casino.

The man, an Omahan whose name was not released, apparently stumbled on the escalator about 1:30 p.m. Friday. He lost his balance and fell over the railing, dropping 20 to 25 feet to the floor, said Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue EMS Director Rick Benson.

The man died of head injuries that evening at the Nebraska Medical Center. Benson said officials do not believe alcohol was a factor.
