ONAWA, Iowa -- State and local investigators are trying to nail down the details of a Sunday night workplace shooting of a business owner.
At a press conference Monday afternoon, police said they were originally told by the owner, Darren Hieber, 32, that he had been shot in the leg by a burglar or intruder.
He was instead shot by a 23-year-old employee, said Jim Fouts, assistant chief of the Onawa Police Department.
Fouts would not say why the two men met at Hieber's trucking business Sunday, only that no conflict led to the shooting and that the cause was still being investigated.
No charges have been filed, and authorities stressed that no other suspects were being sought.
Police are being helped by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
According to Onawa police, deputies with the Monona County Sheriff's Office and police officers responded to a report of a shooting about 6 p.m. Sunday.
Officers found Hieber, with a gunshot wound.
