Man in fatal casino fall ID'd

Iowa authorities have released the name of the Omaha man who died after falling off an escalator at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs.

Robert McIntyre, 62, died of head injuries Friday evening at the Nebraska Medical Center.

Earlier that day, he stumbled on the escalator, lost his balance and fell over the railing, dropping 20 to 25 feet to the floor.

Mitch Mortvedt, special agent in charge for the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, said alcohol did not appear to be factor, and that the death was accidental.

He said McIntyre and a friend had only been at the casino three or four minutes before the fall. — Maggie O'Brien
