Woman dies after G.I. crash

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (AP) — Authorities say a 72-year-old driver died Monday after a collision at a Grand Island intersection.

Police said the accident occurred around 9:35 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 281 and 13th Street.

A westbound sport utility vehicle on 13th Street ran a red light and collided with a southbound semitrailer truck.

Police say the SUV driver, Cherie Sperling, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center, where she died.

The truck driver wasn't injured.

In western Nebraska, a motorist was killed in one-vehicle accident in Garden County.

Authorities said Stormy Jessen, 34, was killed on a county road near Oshkosh when he was ejected from his vehicle in the rollover crash.
