Older drivers can refresh their skills
AARP is offering a four-hour refresher drivers' safety class for anyone 50 or older. The class teaches strategies to compensate for diminished abilities in older drivers.
The class fee is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. There are no exams or tests involved, and each participant receives a certificate of completion, which may apply to an insurance discount.

Bring popcorn for film at Homestead
See "The Unforgiven" at the Homestead National Monument of America's Education Center on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.
It is the sixth film in the 2012 Hollywood and Homesteading Film Festival series, part of the events to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Homestead Act.
This isn't the Clint Eastwood "Unforgiven." This is a 1960 film directed by John Huston and starring Burt Lancaster, Audrey Hepburn, Audie Murphy and Lillian Gish.
Admission is free, so bring the whole family and popcorn to share.
The remaining films in the series: "Big River Rescue," Feb. 18 and 19; "Abilene Town," Feb. 25 and 26.
Ticket deadline for Czech Mardi Gras
Masopust, a Czech-style Mardi Gras, will be held Feb. 18 at the Community Center on Main Street in Protivin, which is in northeast Iowa.
The doors will open at 11 a.m. Festivities start at noon with music by Gordy Prochaska's Little Fisherman Band. A full Czech meal begins at 5 p.m., followed by a Czech skit.
The festival also includes dancing by the Czech Youth Dancers from Montgomery, Minn.; Czech singers; the awarding of the Joseph J. and Martha M. Pecinovsky Scholarship; costume recognition; and a live auction. Attendees are encouraged to come in their ethnic or festival costumes.
