A 52-year-old convicted Nebraska sex offender has been given 21 months in federal prison for failing to register after returning from a stint in an Iowa prison.
A news release from the office of U.S. Attorney Deborah Gilg says Jeffrey Brockmeier, of Bellevue, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Joseph Bataillon.
Brockmeier had been convicted in October 2003 of sexually assaulting a minor in Sarpy County.
He later moved to Iowa, where he was twice convicted of failing to register as a sex offender. Online court records say Brockmeier was given five years in prison for his second conviction, in January 2007.
Authorities say he returned to Bellevue in August 2010 after his release from the Iowa prison but didn't register with Nebraska authorities as a sex offender.
