An Omaha man who authorities allege had been drinking alcohol before he crashed a pickup truck last week was booked Tuesday in connection with the collision that killed a passenger.
Tyler J. Robar, 23, of 16245 Rolling Ridge Drive, was charged in a warrant with motor vehicle homicide, police said.
The passenger, 20-year-old Charles M. Brown of Bellevue, was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck struck an embankment, went into the air and came to rest overturned on a ramp leading from Interstate 680 on Jan. 31.
Omaha police have said they found beer cans in the truck. They also believe, based on accounts from witnesses, that speed was a factor.
Witnesses told police the 2000 Ford F-150 was southbound on I-680 about 6:20 p.m., swerving in and out of traffic. Near the Pacific Street bridge, the Ford tried to pass on the inside shoulder and struck a southbound 2011 Subaru that was in the inside left lane.
The collision caused the Ford to swerve across four lanes of southbound I-680 before it crashed, police have said.
The Subaru's driver was not injured.
Robar, who was taken to the Nebraska Medical Center with a head injury after the crash, was convicted of driving under the influence in 2008 and driving on a suspended license, reckless driving and marijuana possession, all in 2010, according to Douglas County Court records.
