Douglas County and federal officials have agreed on a new contract for the county to house U.S. Marshals Service prisoners and immigration detainees for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. With the new contract, which pays higher daily rates than the old one, the federal agency gets a facility to hold its prisoners and detainees. The $8.8 million the county expects to receive this year will help cover costs at Douglas County Correctional Center, which has a capacity of 1,453 prisoners. It’s a good deal for all.
