A judge on Wednesday ordered three men charged with possession of a gun — a defaced, shortened shotgun — to stand trial.
Ran'dell U. Busch, 24; Ronald V. Mitchell, 23; and Ricardo Kirk, 18, each is charged with three felonies connected to the one gun.
When the three were arrested early Jan. 11 near 18th and Emmet Streets, Busch fled from police and was shot by a pursuing officer.
There is a court hearing next month for an additional two misdemeanor charges against Busch — resisting arrest and obstructing an officer.
The officer-involved shooting was not discussed Wednesday during the men's joint preliminary hearing.
Police said there was a strong odor of marijuana when officers found the three men in a parked van with three women.
The shortened shotgun with the scratched-off serial number was found on the backseat of the vehicle that Busch, Mitchell and Kirk drove to meet up with the women, police said. None of the men claimed the weapon.
