CHADRON, Neb. (AP) — A documentary film is being produced about the disappearance and death of a Chadron State College math professor in northwest Nebraska.
The burned body of 46-year-old Steve Haataja was found tied to a tree about a mile southeast of the campus in March 2007. He’d last been seen in December 2006.
The college is not involved in Dave Janetta’s film project and his crew doesn’t have access to nonpublic parts of the campus.
Authorities say Haataja died of smoke inhalation, but there was no official conclusion on whether he killed himself or was murdered.
Janetta said his film was tentatively titled “The Mystery of the Math Professor.”
He said he hopes that a distributor will be found once his film is seen in various festivals.
