Man struck by car dies

A pedestrian who was struck by a car at 38th and Leavenworth Streets died Friday of his injuries, Omaha police said.

Ronald D. Beckwith, 50, of Omaha died at Creighton University Medical Center, said Officer Nick Prescott.

Beckwith suffered a head injury in the collision, which occurred about 6:50 p.m. Thursday.

He was walking north and crossing Leavenworth Street when he was struck by an eastbound Ford Escort driven by Kimberly A. Acker, 26, of Bellevue.

Police said they had not determined if Beckwith was in the crosswalk when he was hit.

Lynsie Jones, a nurse, was returning home after dinner and came to Beckwith's aid. Jones said she stabilized his neck and stayed with him until paramedics arrived. — Sam Womack
