A 74-year-old Aurora, Neb., man died from internal injuries after the car he was driving collided with a pickup truck in Hall County, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

William Alberts died Friday upon arrival at a hospital, the State Patrol said. His 68-year-old wife, Linda Alberts, was treated at the hospital for her injuries and released.

The pickup driver — Daniel Aalborg, 39, and also of Aurora — did not report any injuries.

Aalborg had been driving west about 4 p.m. on U.S. Highway 34 on the outskirts of Grand Island. His pickup had been following another vehicle that was turning onto Shady Bend Road. Aalborg went around the turning vehicle to continue ahead. William Alberts had been heading south on Shady Bend in a 2005 Buick LeSabre. He may have thought the pickup was turning at the intersection, too, when he pulled onto the highway. The pickup T-boned the car.

Alberts was able to talk to troopers at the scene, a State Patrol dispatcher said. His heart stopped on the way to the hospital, though, and no one was able to revive him.
