By Kirby Kaufman
WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER

The Omaha Rollergirls kick off their 2012 season at 7 p.m. Saturday against the Des Moines Derby Dames at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs.

Home games will feature a double header format, which include both Omaha teams — Omaha AAA and Omaha All-Stars.

The teams comprise the Omaha Rollergirls, which is a member of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association South Central Region. The All-Stars represent the league in national and regional circuits while the AAA compete in Midwest events.

Roller derby is played simultaneously skating counterclockwise on a circuit track by two teams of five members. Teams consist of a scoring player called a "jammer." The other team members are "blockers." Games consist of two 30-minute periods.

Cost for admission is $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Children ages 10 and under are free. For more information call (712) 326-2282.
