Senior citizens can continue education
Beginning March 6, senior citizens can take part in courses offered through the Senior College Program at the Millard Good Samaritan Society.
The Good Samaritan Society, in conjunction with Southwest Minnesota State University and Minnesota West Community and Technical Collage in Marshall, Minn., offers courses taught by college-level instructors to residents and senior citizens in the community. There are no charges, tests or grades.
The six-hour courses offered during the spring 2012 term will be: "Painting Living Things in Watercolor"; "Music of American Decades: Songs From WWII, the Forties and the Fifties"; "Notions of America: A Study of 'The Scarlet Letter' and 'Letters from a Birmingham Jail.'"

Nominate volunteers for first lady's awards
The deadline for nominating someone for the Nebraska First Lady's Outstanding Community Service Awards is March 1.
Awards will be presented in the following categories this year: Lifetime Achievement in Volunteer Service, Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Group of the Year, Service-Learning Program, Community Partnership in Education, Business Support for Education, School Volunteer Program, Student Leader, Community Service Project and National Service Award.

Family help line has served at least 5,000
Since opening in January 2010, the Nebraska Family Helpline has helped more than 5,000 families in Nebraska.
Parents or guardians from 81 of the state's 93 counties have called in the past two years when they were concerned with a child's behavior and thought they needed additional help to address the situation. The NFH provides support for families to deal with an immediate crisis and help gain access to services in the family's area for a long-term solution.
The Nebraska Family Helpline is a free, 24/7 help line provided by Boys Town and funded by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. The number is 888-866-8660.
Orchestra Omaha concert set for Sunday
Orchestra Omaha will present a concert at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Papillion at 3 p.m. Sunday. Titled "Small Wonders," the program includes Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 (Little Russian).
The general public is invited to the free concert (although donations will be accepted).
Benefit for Lucy Bean is rescheduled
The Coffee House (a benefit for Lucy Bean) that was postponed because of bad weather has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. to midnight Saturday in the St. John School gym in Plattsmouth.
If people are unable to attend but would like to donate toward the benefit, a special account has been set up for Lucy at the Cass County Bank. Checks should be made payable to "Lucy Bean Benefit" and sent to Cass County Bank, attention "Lucy Bean Benefit", 2020 Eighth Ave., Plattsmouth, NE 68048.
