Mike Minter Jr. rushed for 1,176 yards and 14 touchdowns for Lincoln North Star in 2011, but projects as a defensive back in college. He started learning to play cornerback last season.

Minter has desire to follow his dad

LINCOLN — Mike Minter Jr. isn't going to lie. He wants a football scholarship offer from Nebraska.

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder moved from North Carolina to Lincoln North Star to get it. He's willing to learn cornerback for it. And his dad, Mike Minter Sr., was an All-Big 12 safety for the Huskers in 1996.

Saturday, the son will be among a glut of high school players attending NU's Junior Day — an open house designed to impress prospective targets for the 2013 recruiting class.

It's a key event for the Huskers, who are hosting several top-rated area prospects and should have the room for their biggest recruiting class since 2008, when they signed 28 players.

Minter hopes it's a big day for him, too.

"I'm just hoping they are going to offer me," he told Huskers Illustrated, a recruiting partner with The World-Herald. "That's why I'm going this weekend — to hopefully see that offer."
