ROZMAN SUES FOR $100,000 AND HIS JOB
Feb. 18, 1971: Stephen Rozman sued the University of Nebraska Board of Regents for reinstatement to the faculty and $100,000 in compensatory charges. The action was brought in Federal District Court as a result of a recent decision of NU regents not to retain Rozman in his untenured position as assistant professor of political science. Rozman asked for an injunction to keep the university from interfering with his rights of free speech, due process and assembly under the U.S. Constitution. The decision to let Rozman go followed reports centered on Rozman's involvement in campus antiwar disturbances.
1936: Street Commissioner Kresl said all but about 50 of the city's 8,400 blocks of streets had been cleared of snow. The city's snow bill had mounted close to $40,000. The street department's budget for the whole year was $43,700.
2001: A conservation group and an irrigation district cut an interesting deal to help wildlife on the North Platte River. The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District recently presented a $300,000 check to the Nature Conservancy for a 40-year conservation easement on 500 acres of wet meadow. The parcel, about two miles north of Sutherland, Neb., was part of a 2,500-acre tract the Nature Conservancy had purchased from an area rancher.
