Evidence markers surrounded the blood that had pooled on a sidewalk in front of a downtown Omaha parking garage where a 34-year-old man was slain early Saturday.

Matthew M. Voss was shot about 3:30 a.m. near 16th and Harney Streets, where a raucous crowd had gathered, said Officer Michael Pecha, an Omaha police spokesman. Voss, who lived in Omaha, died later at the Nebraska Medical Center.

Antonio M. Washington, 38, of Omaha also was shot and taken to the same hospital, where a spokeswoman Saturday night said he was in good condition.

Both victims are felons who have been convicted of drug sales and gun charges, according to Douglas County District Court records.

Police were called to the area on a report of a crowd disturbance. The first officer to arrive heard multiple gunshots, Pecha said.

Witnesses pointed out a person running away, and officers caught that person at 15th and Farnam Streets.

The person was taken in for questioning. It was unclear whether he was one of two men whom police on Saturday night said they had booked on suspicion of committing acts in support of the killing.

Tillman T. Henderson, 24, was booked for possession of a weapon by a prohibited person, possession of a defaced firearm and possession of a stolen firearm. James G. Garrett, 31, was booked as an accessory to a felony.

Police asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 402-444-7867; www.omahacrimestoppers.net; via a text message that begins with the acronym OPD to 274637; or download a Crime Stoppers application on a smartphone by searching “TipSubmit.”

Crime Stoppers offers a reward of up to a $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
