An Arizona sheriff waded into Nebraska politics Monday with a show of support for Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning.
Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County endorsed Bruning's Nebraska bid for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate.
Arpaio is an outspoken critic of illegal immigration who has generated national attention and controversy for, among other things, issuing pink underwear to inmates and re-establishing chain gangs in the Phoenix area.
"Jon Bruning is a true conservative who understands the importance of enforcing our immigration laws and protecting our citizens," Arpaio said in a press release.
In addition to Arpaio, Bruning has won the endorsement of the Nebraska Fraternal Order of Police and 79 Nebraska county sheriffs and police chiefs.
